Stromboli vacation in the Aeolian Islands

The island of Stromboli is the furthest northeast of the Aeolian archipelago. The closest islands are Panarea that lies 10 nautical miles to the southwest, and Salina that lies 20 nm to the southwest. The town of Tropea on the Calabria mainland is 32 nm to the southeast. On the Sicilian mainland the town of Milazzo is 34 nm directly south of Stromboli, and the town of Portorosa is 39 nm southwest:

Stromboli is the black pearl of the Aeolian Islands. The island of Stromboli consists of two towns: Ginostra and Stromboli, as well as an actively erupting volcano. It is possible to see the brilliant red eruption from your yacht at night. Trekking excursions are offered from the town of Stromboli. The assistance of a professional guide is mandatory. Ginostra is located on the western coast of Stromboli. There is a small pier, used primarily for ferry docking. Anchorage is possible near to the pier. This small town is located up on a cliff and offers spectacular views of the westward Aeolian Islands. There is a small mini market, and a handful of bars and restaurants. Stromboli is located on the eastern coast of Stromboli, and is much larger in size and population than Ginostra. There is a small pier, used primarily for ferry docking, and a few buoys. Anchorage is possible in sand offshore of Stromboli. Excursions up to see the volcano (guide required) start from Stromboli. Sabbia Nera is the company to contact in Stromboli, in particular for volcano trekking, helicopter transfers, diving and snorkeling, and vacation rentals. Strombolicchio is located 1,6 km offshore the coast of Stromboli

To NOT miss: the streets and town of Stomboli are very scenic, charming, and peaceful as with Panarea only electric vehicles are permitted on the island. Stromboli has beautiful black sand beaches. Take a tour around the island by boat to visit the "Sciara del Fuoco" on the Northwestern side of the island. A steep slope covered in lava flows including the most recent flow of 2002. During eruptions rocks pelt down the slope and slam into the water, exciting to watch, from a safe distance, by boat. Stombolicchio is located offshore of Stromboli. It is a large rock 43m high with a lighthouse. Hike to the top of Stromboli. This is a VERY difficult and long hike. A professional guide is absolutely required (as with reservations). The guide takes the group up above the crater, arriving at Sun-down, for a spectacular view of the eruption. The main festival is for San Bartolomeo in August.
