Sailing boat excursion from Messina to the Aeolian Islands

Messina is located on the northeast point of Sicily, and is the closest city to the Italian mainland (5 km away).  Historically it was used as a stopping point for Mediterranean trade.  Today the port of Messina primarily hosts Cruise ships and Ferries (that are vital to connect Sicily to mainland Italy). 

Messina is located 100 km north of Catania and 40 km east of Milazzo.  Messina has many notable sites including the Museo Regionale, Duomo, Treasury, and numerous churches.  The primary tourist port of Messina is the marina del Nettuno (constructed in 1998).  Within walking distance from the port are numerous stores, restaurants, tourist sites, and a promenade along the water.
